A fictional independent design studio

Independent brand strategy & design

Good work.
Clear signals.

We give independent businesses a visual identity people can recognise, then make the files that carry it into the world.

Brand direction, visual identity and launch materials.

A good place to start

The work grew.
The brand can, too.

You know your work well. The hard part is getting the same story onto your website, packaging and the document you send after an enquiry.

You’re starting something of your own.

You have an offer and an audience in mind. You need a clear way to introduce both.

The business has changed.

Your services have grown, but the identity still describes the version you started with.

Everything looks a little unrelated.

Your website, proposals and social posts could use a shared set of design decisions.

Bring the rough notes. They count as a starting point.

Services

Three ways
to move forward.

Choose the part that needs work. Each service has a clear purpose and a useful set of files at the end.

Brand direction

For a new business or a change in direction.

Put your audience, offer and point of view into words you can use when making design decisions.

A concise positioning statement

Core messages for your offer

A written creative direction

Visual identity

For a business ready to turn its direction into design.

Give your brand a recognisable set of visual choices, with enough guidance to keep using them after handover.

Launch materials

For a business with an identity and something to announce.

Apply an existing identity to the places your audience will meet it next. Give those last-minute design decisions a proper home.

Inside the visual identity service

An identity,
with a useful
supporting cast.

We begin with your brand direction, then develop the logo, colours and type as one identity. The guide explains how to use them on everyday materials.

What the demo package includes

Logo files for different spaces

A primary mark and supporting variations for wide layouts, compact spaces and single-colour use.

Colour and type direction

A defined palette and font recommendations, with examples of how they work together.

A guide you can refer to

Logo spacing, colour values and basic layout examples in one document.

This service suits a business with a clear offer and an agreed brand direction. If those decisions are still open, start with Brand direction.

Demo scope: font licences, printing and website development are quoted separately.

An example in context

Room for the
good stuff.

A bookshop identity designed to stay clear on a shopfront, a book label and an events card.

The Quiet
Shelf

After hours,
between pages.

The Quiet Shelf / Reading evening

The brief

Create an identity that feels welcoming on the shopfront and stays readable on a small book label.

The direction

Use generous space, warm paper tones and a simple wordmark. Let the books bring the colour.

Example applications

A bookshop wordmark, shelf labels, a paper bag and a small events card.

An original concept to show how the service could be presented.

How we work

A clear next step at each stage.

We agree on the work before design begins. Feedback has a place in the process, so it doesn’t have to live in twelve separate email threads.

01

Share the starting point

Tell me what your business does, who it serves and what you need to change. Existing materials are useful here.

02

Agree on the scope

We set the deliverables, project fee and schedule in a written proposal before you commit.

03

Develop the direction

I present the design with its reasoning. You gather your feedback, then we refine the agreed direction.

04

Put the files to work

You receive the agreed files and usage guide, with the key decisions explained.

The person behind the work

Hi, I’m Sam.

Sam Lane · Demo designer

Independent brand strategist & designer

I work with independent businesses that care about what they make and want their brand to explain it clearly.

I like asking useful questions, putting words in order and finding the design detail that makes everything feel connected. My notebook is less organised than this paragraph suggests.

Sam Lane is a fictional person created for this demo website.

Before we talk

Before the
first hello.

For the questions that tend to arrive just after you close the tab.

What should I send in my first email?

A short introduction to your business, the work you need and any date you’re working towards. Add a link to your current site or materials if you have them. Rough notes are welcome; a beautifully formatted brief is optional.

Can we work with my existing logo?

Yes. Share your current logo and the files you have, along with what feels useful and what is getting in the way. We can then agree whether the work should focus on supporting materials or a wider identity update.

I don’t know which service I need. Where do I start?

Tell me what you’re trying to change. If the offer or audience is still unclear, Brand direction is the starting point. If that direction is settled, Visual identity or Launch materials may suit the next step.

How are feedback and revisions handled?

The proposal sets out the review stages and revision scope before work begins. At each stage, gather comments into one response so we can make decisions together. A single email is much easier to follow than a scavenger hunt.

Will I receive editable files?

The agreed deliverables include the relevant source files and final exports. The handover guide explains which file to use where. Any third-party font or asset licences are identified separately in the proposal.

Do the packages include a website or printing?

The demo packages cover the brand work listed on this page. Website development, printing and third-party licences would need their own agreed scope and costs.

How long does a project take?

The schedule depends on the agreed scope and your launch date. Share any fixed deadline in your first email, and we can confirm a schedule in the proposal.

Tell me what you’re building

Tell us what
you have in mind.

Tell me about your business and what you’d like to change. A few useful details will do. The email doesn’t need its own brand strategy.
